Online Play ----------- You can play a versus game against an opponent over the internet or LAN. Here are some instructions. Brass Hats uses TCP port 5931. One player must be the host, and that player needs to open port 5931 on their router or firewall if they have one. How this is done depends on your setup. Please consult the documentation for whatever firewall you use. The host should choose Versus -> New Versus, and select the "Play over the network (TCP/IP)" button. The host chooses which map to play, which team they will be, and whether fog of war is on or off. When ready, the host clicks "Start", and the game will wait for the other player to connect. At this point, the other player should go to Versus -> Connect, and enter in the IP address of the host's machine. If you're playing over the internet, the host can find his IP by using a website such as http://www.whatismyip.com/ If you're playing over the LAN, the host can find his IP using the "ipconfig" utility. Click on Start -> Run, and enter "cmd". Then type "ipconfig" into the console window, and press enter. You should see something like: C:\Documents and Settings\James>ipconfig Windows IP Configuration Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : WorkGroup IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.28 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 In this case, the host's LAN IP is 192.168.2.28. Once the other player enters the host's IP and clicks Connect, the game should start. One important thing to remember when playing a network versus game, is that the host should save the game if you want to quit and resume the game later. Then, to resume the game, the host goes to Versus -> Load Versus, and from that point, everything works the same as for starting a new game.
